This past week, several very exciting Pixar-related developments have stuck out in a slow early-October news cycle. Possibly the most exciting is that just today Finding Dory officially crossed the $1 Billion Worldwide Box Office gross, becoming the second Pixar feature to claim the title (Toy Story 3 being the first)! In addition, Director Dave Mullins debuted a sneak peak at Pixar's next short film titled "LOU" and will debut with Cars 3 in Summer 2017! Finally, Disney-Pixar collaborated with Vans to create a Toy Story Vans Collection, complete with Woody and Buzz themed shoes and merchandise! Finding Dory has remained the highest grossing domestic release of 2016 claiming over $483 Million at the box office, continuing to swim closer and closer to the $1 Billion worldwide box office mark with international markets Italy and Germany still awaiting our favorite forgetful blue tang Dory. After it's 4th weekend of release in the United States, Finding Dory has officially become the highest grossing domestic release of 2016, beating out Marvel's Captain America: Civil War with $422.6M! Civil War has a cumulative domestic gross of $406.2M. Although Finding Dory still has a ways to go before hitting the billion dollar global box office mark, Pixar's latest entry still stands at a very comfortable $642.8M worldwide box office gross. As our friends at Screen Junkies humorously put it, Finding Dory might as well be called Finding Money! The whale-sized box office results from Finding Dory's domestic opening weekend haul break the all-time record for animated film opening weekend box office gross. As The Hollywood Reporter published this morning, the $136M splash puts Finding Dory at the top of the record for highest grossing animated film opening weekend, $15M ahead of Dreamwork's longtime record-holder Shrek The Third with $121M.
